It is both a privilege and a pleasure to be the principal of Westwood Elementary. My love for teaching is a long one. I began my active role in education in high school as a member of our Future Teachers of America Association.
I served as our school’s local and district Vice President. Our school also had an innovative program entitled Teaching Experience where I had the opportunity to teach elementary students part of the day. This experience provided me with the understanding of how much an individual can make a difference in a child’s life.
After I graduated from high school I attended Sam Houston State University and received my bachelor’s in education and master’s in bilingual.
While in college, I was a member of our university’s reading charter for three years by serving in various leadership roles including president. I have been a member of Phi Delta Kappa since 1996.
My professional teaching experience started in Conroe ISD as a classroom teacher for 10 years and 13 years of administrative experience in elementary and middle school in Spring Branch.
Throughout my career I have been involved in the development of TAKS by working with TEA, writing grants and curriculum, incorporating after school programs, creating programs to enhance parent involvement, serving as a gifted and talented lead, developing mentor programs, serving as a dyslexia teacher and consulting as a bilingual specialist.
This year’s theme for Westwood is STARS: Striving to Achieve Rewarding Success!. We at Westwood believe that by reaching for the stars we provide a constant reminder that high expectations, hard work, and dedication allows our children to realize their potential.
I invite you to come and share the joy of learning in an elementary school which continually demonstrates excellence. I am looking forward to a year full of celebrations and accomplishments for our students.
